According to the Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation. Her most prominent lover, Adonis, was said to have been a life-death-rebirth deity that complements’ Goran Bregovics’ orchestra for Weddings and Funerals with its themes of love and death.A seven-time platinum composer who has worked with the likes of Iggy Pop and Cesaria Evora, the Bosnian and Serbian musician in one of the best known composers of the Balkans. His Weddings and Funerals orchestra has performed to international crowds of for the last 19 years and in July 2016 played at the Lincoln Center in New York. Composing for an orchestra of instruments from brass to guitar, percussion, string and traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, Goran Bregovic is also inspired by orthodox and Roman Catholic hymns as well as Muslim prayers.Imagine the cultural sounds of Jewish and gypsy weddings mixed with sounds of war and piece; Goran Bregovic calls is “music that our soul recognises instinctively and the body greets with an irresistible urge to dance”.
